DCG Volleyball Wraps Up Strong Season

The DCG Volleyball team had an amazing run in their 2024 season finishing with a 22-19 record when their season ended against Clear Creek Amana in a Class 4A Substate Final. Coached by third-year head coach Meg Jackson, the Mustangs beat Gilbert in the quarterfinals and won a nail-biter semifinal game against Ballard to advance to the regional championship. This program will be saying goodbye to 3 seniors; Landry Glasgow, Maliya Carlson, and Deja Jackson.

The right and outside hitter, Landry Glasgow, will not be back in the program next year but the team is sure to miss her experience and leadership out on the court. Maliya Carlson led the team in kills with 283, averaging 2.4 kills per set. Lastly, Deja Jackson was awarded Honorable Mention in the Little Hawkeye Conference this season which was well deserved as she was third on the team in blocks with 33. Most of these seniors have been on the varsity team since their freshman year and their skill, experience, and leadership will be missed.

With a full roster of 21 this season, the Mustangs had players from all grade levels including some eye-catching underclassmen. Impressive freshman Anna Jackson, who started all season as a libero for the Mustangs, led the team in digs with 448. With three more years to go, Anna Jackson will definitely continue to be an asset to the Mustangs in the future. Now she wasn’t the only underclassman filling up the stats sheet. Sophomore Gwen Farley not only led the team in assists this season but finished fourth among all classes with 1061. Lastly, another sophomore Maggie Liefker is a standout because she led the Mustangs stats sheet in both blocks and serve aces. She led the team in both categories in the 2023 season as well.

Although the Mustangs are losing great talent in their senior class, they are leaving it in the good hands of these underclassmen who are ready to fill their shoes.

Congratulations to the DCG Volleyball team on a great season and good luck to them next year.
