Two jazz choirs from DCG were selected to compete in the Iowa Vocal Jazz Championships! This is the first time in DCG school history that our district has had two groups selected for this event! Modulation will make their first performance in history at the IVJC, and Dissonance will be returning for their third time in a row to compete. The Iowa Vocal Jazz Championships require groups to submit recordings of their performances for judging. The top 8 scores across the state in each class are invited to compete in the championships. The 8 final groups selected were:
Cedar Rapids Washington: Slice of Jazz
Dallas Center-Grimes: Dissonance
Dallas Center-Grimes: Modulation
Des Moines Roosevelt: Da Capo
Pleasant Valley: Leading Tones
WDM Valley: Vocal Point
WDM Valley: Vocalese
WDM Valley: Vox
These groups will compete on Wednesday, April 1, at Greene County High School in Jefferson, Iowa.
Also, DCG High School Jazz One was selected to compete in the Iowa Jazz Championships. After placing highly against intense competition at Waukee Northwest, they were able to beat out enough bands to earn an invitation to IJC. This is the first time since moving to Class 4A that DCG has had a band selected for this prestigious contest. They will compete on Tuesday, April 7 at 9:oo am in CY Stephens in Ames, Iowa.
This is the first time in DCG History that we have 3 ensembles competing for State Championships.
