How did you get into the sport? When did you start playing?

My Dad introduced/coached all girls’ athletics at Creston High School in the 70s. Both he and my mom were teachers and coaches. As a kid, I watched the relationships that developed from that and the impact that they had on both the kids and the community and I admired them for it and want to do the same.

Favorite thing about coaching?

Getting to know the players and their families and working with them to build a program that leaves them with great memories.

Favorite memory from coaching at DCG?

I’ve been at DCG as head coach for just three seasons but I have to say the smiles that I have seen from these teams and the love they have for one another.

Also– beating Indianola at their place in 2022 and Landry Glasgow jumping our bench to keep a ball in play in the regional final against ADM.

Most rewarding part of being a teacher/coach at DCG?

Seeing the joy that hard work and success can bring to young athletes and getting to see them achieve this with their friends. Athletics brought me so much joy as a high schooler and, as a coach, when you see a team full of individuals come together and experience that same level of happiness, there is nothing better.

Advice to a young player?

Give everything you have in your capacity, both physically and as a teammate to others. You don’t want to look back at your high school career wishing you had done more.
