For 33 years Brent Buttjer has been a devoted partner to the work of activities and athletics at the high school level. Buttjer’s longevity in the profession is a credit to his passion and dedication to the position.
The 2024-25 school year will be Buttjer’s final year as DCG CSD’s Activity Director. Buttjer announced his decision to retire at DCG’s annual coaches meeting.
“The decision to become an activities director was easy,” Buttjer says. “It was my way to build a connection with young people and hopefully provide a memorable experience for them as they navigated their way through high school. It’s now time to reconnect with my own family and give them the attention they deserve on a more regular basis.”
Buttjer has spent the last five years as DCG’s Activities Director. Prior to his tenure with the Mustangs, Buttjer served as the activities director at Ankeny High School and Fort Madison High School. He also has experience as a teacher and coach in the North Scott Community School District.
“I’m a firm believer that activities play a crucial role in the overall success of a school district. It’s been the honor of a lifetime to serve as a partner in this work,” Buttjer says.
Buttjer has received several awards throughout his career. In 2024, he was named the IGCA Softball Administrator of the Year. He served as President of the Iowa High School Athletic Directors Association from 2023-24 and was named Central District Administrator of the Year in 2023.
“Brent Buttjer has made his mark at Dallas Center-Grimes,” shares DCG CSD Superintendent Dr. Scott Blum. “Brent is a student-focused leader and is committed to the staff and students in our district. We wish him well in his retirement.”
Buttjer will continue his work as DCG Activities Director through June 30, 2025. The district intends to begin searching for his replacement this fall.
