About the MPC
The Mustang Performance Center has already and continues to impact a lot of different people within the DCG family. Every student in our high school has access to quality performance and general fitness training via our physical education program as well as extracurricular opportunities. Having this new facility affords us as teachers and coaches to better address the various individualized needs of our students to provide them with the best experience possible. In physical education, and more specifically in strength & speed classes, the given amount of space and equipment can be issues that dictate how we are able to deliver instruction. Having these needs addressed through this project allows us to be much more targeted with the delivery of programming.
The Mustang Performance Center (MPC) features 24 full power rack stations, allowing us to rack 48 barbells at a time as needed. Every rack station has a full set of urethane bumper plates customized with both school colors and logo for each weight interval. In addition, each rack station is complete with an adjustable bench, a full set of resistance bands, and many other specialized rack-mounted attachments. Each grouping of 6 power racks has its own full set of customized urethane dumbbells from 10-85 lbs.
The MPC is also outfitted with 8 cable pulley systems complete with medicine ball, kettlebell, and multi-purpose storage solutions. Various multi-use training bars can be found stored throughout the facility as well. There is a storage room for some of the bigger equipment and accessories as well as a coach’s office in the facility. In addition, the MPC features a 100’x15′ indoor turf area as well as an indoor track lane designed for various training usages within the Mustang Performance program.
Students interact with different types of training technology within the Mustang Performance Center. Each rack station is equipped with a rack-mounted iPad through which students log daily training session attendance as well as enter training data. The MPC is also equipped with 16 velocity-based training (VBT) units that measure the speed, among other metrics, of a barbell to provide instantaneous feedback to the lifter. VBT enables athletes to train at the appropriate prescribed intensity, which ensures that they are training optimally to achieve their desired performance outcomes.
