State Leader! Addie Abens Powers DCG Softball

There’s nothing like the sweet sound of a softball coming off the bat. For DCG’s Addie Abens, the ping of the bat is usually followed by a roar from the crowd. Abens has hit 20 home runs in 2026.

“Last year I went into a slump, and I haven’t done that this year,” shares Abens. “Keep powering through and keep improving.”

While each homer is impressive, Addie does have a favorite from the year so far.

“Carlisle, that was one of the best things that’s ever happened,” shares the junior. “I hit the game-winning home run and just ran around the bases and watched the crowd go crazy and my teammates at home plate cheering me on. It’s the best thing ever.”

In addition to cheering her on, Addie’s teammates are also hitting the ball over the wall. DCG has 56 home runs this year as a team, the second most in all of Iowa.

“It validates the work they put in,” shares DCG Softball Coach Todd Merical. “It’s fun to see how they celebrate for each other. This isn’t just about me; they get excited for everyone who hits a home run.”

The time is now to catch a DCG softball game. 56 home runs as a team. 26 victories and a Little Hawkeye Conference title. If you like winning and you like the long ball, get to the diamond soon! Here’s a link to the 2026 schedule.
